I’m Katie, a twenty something year old Iiving in New York City working for Dormify, a one-stop-shop for small space decorating, as a content creator and resident DIYer. My everlasting love affair with design of all forms started at a young age. You could always find me rearranging my room for the millionth time or taking an unexpected object and DIYing it to be my next decor piece. I credit my innate style and taste to my mom who is always embarking on her next creative “mission”. Whether it’s her next holiday tablescape, remodeling a bathroom, or throwing the best birthday parties a little girl could ask for (yes, I had a 3-tier My Little Pony cake!), she celebrates everyday creatively and beautifully.
2015 marked a big year when I married my college sweetheart. Together with my mom, we crafted every detail of our wedding by hand from gold embossed drink stirrers to the custom laurel monogram menus on the tables. After the wedding, my husband and I moved to our dream neighborhood, the West Village, and had the daunting task of decorating an empty apartment. With some thrifty finds and a little DIY magic, we created our first home.
After many requests to bring these special touches to other people’s homes and events, I decided to create Nena’s Way – a way to grow and share my love for aesthetic details with the world, and document my musings in interior design, entertaining, travel, and yummy food.
In Spanish, nena means “baby girl” or “darling”, but it was also the nickname of my beloved abuelita. She was the matriarch of our family who taught my mom and I to be the creative souls we are. I have always been inspired by her style, grace, and most of all, her love for family gatherings, well decorated spaces, and beautifully orchestrated parties.
Inspired by her art of creating a beautiful everyday, I’ve have made it my mission to continue her legacy.
